It's a Family Affair: BROS Set to Drop Vol. 1 in October

Stoked for BROS Vol.1? You're not alone...

Sheepdogs fans, rejoice! The dogs finally decided to throw us a bone after the tremendous success of their 2015 album, Future Nostalgia. Earlier this month, the Sheepdogs shared some exciting news on their Facebook page, which, of course, had fans buzzing. Teasing a short video featuring Ewan, Shamus, and some smooth, soulful keys, the video wrapped up with the album cover of BROS Vol. 1.

First things first, fret not. This isn’t the end for the Saskatoon boys, but rather, an exciting way for the Curries to explore other sounds. Translation: even more great music, so quit yer harpin’. The album’s first single Tell Me, (which was just released on Soundcloud), is the perfect marriage of classic funk and soul.

With spacey harms, a whole lotta keys, and a tasteful amount of horns, it may not be your Sheepdogs-style rock, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it’ll generate some serious toe-tapping. Also, the lyrics of Tell Me include ‘ass for days,’ so you know I’m already diggin’ it.

Tell Me is the soundtrack I hear in my head when I walk down the street,” says Ewan of the track. “It’s the sound of my petty, horseshit neuroses, fortified by a wall of voices and keyboards until it becomes a hard strutting suit of armor.”

While I’ve loved the Sheepdogs since they were just a couple long-haired young pups, I have to admit that I’m pretty jazzed to hear what comes of Ewan and Shamus’ latest endeavour. They’ve already given spoilers that the sound will channel “what Sly & The Family Stone once called a whole new thing”...it’s a family affair, after all.

Still, I’m ridiculously curious about what else we can expect from the album. Boasting a vast assortment of influences, from Badfinger to Latin music legends, Gilberto Gil and Os Mutantes, the brothers have made some pretty hefty promises. Having once again joined forces with the brilliant Thomas D’Arcy of Taurus Recording in Toronto, I’m pretty confident that they’ll deliver.

"We had a bit of a kitchen sink approach to a bunch of these tunes," says Shamus. "We'd just go back and forth layering more ideas on until we created these musical collages. We love the sound of those over-produced records from the late 60's and 70's when people like the Beatles and the Beach Boys were going crazy with overdubs. We loaded these songs with as many hooks and homages and pieces of ear candy as possible."

The album is set to drop on October 14 via Dine Alone Records...seems like a long way off, but considering the album is actually two years in the making, I think we can all hang tight for two and a half weeks.

Here’s what we can look forward to from BROS Vol. 1:

1. Tell Me
2. Brazil
3. Sometimes You Got To Be Sad
4. Flight 714
5. Watch Who You're Talking To
6. Couldn't Hear A Thing
7. Scooby Doobie
8. Two Chords
9. Boogar Sugre
10. Hopelessly
